Australia vs South Africa 2nd t20 live streaming

Whether it was ring-rust from the five-day break or a general failure to make the transition from the Tests, the Australians were largely underwhelming at the Wanderers. If not for the all-round efforts of David Hussey, the tourists might well have expected a hiding, rather than the tense four-wicket loss.

Australia’s batting looked suspect, with Michael Clarke, Ricky Ponting and Brad Haddin unable to make a significant impact on the scoring rate and eventually gifting their wickets away. The decision to bowl Shane Harwood and Brett Geeves – with one Twenty20 international between them – in the final two overs appeared more curious with each boundary, as South Africa sealed victory with four balls to spare.

Australia vs South Africa 2nd Test Preview:

For all their injuries and last-minute squad additions, it is likely that Australia will go in with the same 11 that triumphed at the Wanderers. Peter Siddle has a foot problem and Ben Hilfenhaus is battling a sore back and the group has two fast-bowling cover players, Brett Geeves and Steve Magoffin.

However, the captain Ricky Ponting expects Siddle and Hilfenhaus to play, which would leave their only decision as whether to include either of their specialist spinners, Bryce McGain or Nathan Hauritz.

The medium-pacer Andrew McDonald could be the man in danger if a slow bowler is preferred but with rain around Durban on match eve, an all-seam attack again seems likely.

South Africa (likely) 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Neil McKenzie, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 Jacques Kallis, 5 AB de Villiers, 6 JP Duminy, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Morne Morkel, 9 Paul Harris, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Makhaya Ntini.

Australia (likely) 1 Phillip Hughes, 2 Simon Katich, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Hussey, 5 Michael Clarke, 6 Marcus North, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Mitchell Johnson, 9 Peter Siddle, 10 Doug Bollinger, 11 Ben Hilfenhaus, 12 Andrew McDonald.

Australia 1 Shaun Marsh, 2 David Warner, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Hussey, 5 David Hussey, 6 Cameron White, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 James Hopes/Nathan Hauritz, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Nathan Bracken, 11 Shaun Tait.

South Africa entered the series planning to rotate their fast bowlers and Dale Steyn is the only one of the Test attack not to have had a rest. His break could come at the SCG or in the next game at the Adelaide Oval, with Morne Morkel and the uncapped Lonwabo Tsotsobe both available to replace him. It is hard to see the batting line-up altering, with Vaughn van Jaarsveld likely to miss out again.

South Africa (possible) 1 Herschelle Gibbs, 2 Hashim Amla, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 JP Duminy, 6 Neil McKenzie, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Albie Morkel, 9 Johan Botha (capt), 10 Dale Steyn/Morne Morkel, 11 Makhaya Ntini.
Pitch & conditions
The SCG pitch was the subject of vigorous debate during the Test match, when its cracks resembled earthquake-inducing fault-lines. However, the game lasted until the final few minutes on the fifth day, so batting was clearly not too difficult and Sydney is usually a venue where runs can be scored relatively freely. The weather could be a slight concern, with the chance of showers or thunderstorms.

Team news
Australia will take in a more experienced attack than in their Hobart victory, where Hilfenhaus and the debutant Ryan Harris performed solidly. Both men have been left out of the side for the SCG, where Mitchell Johnson will return after a break and Shaun Tait should also play having been rested at Bellerive Oval. The remaining question is whether Australia can find a place for the offspinner Nathan Hauritz on his home ground. Hauritz has travelled with the team for the Twenty20s and two ODIs without being required as David Hussey, Michael Clarke and Cameron White have shared the spin duties. At the SCG he might have his best chance of a call-up with the allrounder James Hopes a potential casualty.

David Warner will play his first one-day international on Sunday after being picked to replace Micheal Clarke, who was ruled out of the South Africa series with a thumb injury. Warner starred with a breathtaking 89 in the opening Twenty20 and was kept as cover for Clarke before being sent home to Sydney on Thursday when the vice-captain appeared to recover from a problem sustained during the Perth Test.

Clarke played in the three-wicket loss to South Africa at the MCG, but the injury got worse and was told to rest for two weeks. Alex Kountouris, the team physio, said Clarke experienced pain while making 19 and it was the first time since hurting his right thumb that he had performed without an injection.

“While Michael could continue to play with pain-relieving injections, this will ultimately slow his recovery,” Kountouris said. Clarke will now look towards the five-game series against New Zealand starting next month.

While Warner’s promotion for the second match in Hobart is a personal highlight, it means he will not be able to help New South Wales, who are in contention for a spot at the lucrative Champions League Twenty20, in their match against Victoria in Sydney on Saturday night. “It presents an exciting opportunity for David to follow his spectacular Twenty20 debut in the 50-over format for Australia,” Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors, said.

Warner will provide a quick solution to Australia’s opening situation after Michael Hussey was promoted to partner Shaun Marsh in Melbourne. Marsh compiled a cautious 79 off 97 balls while Hussey, who has become used to life in the middle order, was out for 6 in the third over

Team news

Ryan Harris is the only player in Australia’s 13-man squad who will definitely miss out but they have not yet decided whether to include Nathan Hauritz. The call will come down to the condition of the pitch on the morning of the game, although it is more likely they will enter with a three-man fast-bowling unit, the allrounder James Hopes and the spin of Cameron White and David Hussey. Brad Haddin returns to the side after being rested for the Twenty20s, as does Michael Clarke, who was declared fit despite battling a thumb injury. Australia’s other main question is who should open with Shaun Marsh. Matthew Hayden has retired and Shane Watson is injured, so it will probably be either Clarke or James Hopes, both of whom have taken the role in the past.

South Africa 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Herschelle Gibbs, 3 Hashim Amla, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 JP Duminy, 6 Mark Boucher (wk), 7 Albie Morkel, 8 Morne Morkel, 9 Johan Botha, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Makhaya Ntini.

Australia squad Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin (wk), Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Callum Ferguson, Marcus North, James Hopes, Cameron White, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Brett Geeves, Nathan Bracken, Ben Laughlin

Watch out for …

Michael Clarke was one of Australia’s most in-form batsmen in the Test series and having carried a thumb problem since the Perth Test he will be refreshed after being rested for the Twenty20s. An increasingly important leader on the field, Clarke might also be called upon to open the innings as Australia search for a replacement for the injured Shane Watson to partner Shaun Marsh. If Clarke’s form continues, a big one-day score cannot be far away.

JP Duminy was South Africa’s best player in both the Twenty20 games, when he kept his head as those around him lost theirs. A pair of composed half-centuries indicated his outstanding form from the Test series would not be put away along with his white clothing. He could be South Africa’s key batsman in these five ODIs and if he gets an opportunity to bat early, he must be a strong chance to post his first one-day international century.
