Chelsea lost ground in the race for the title last weekend when they could only take a share of the points against Blackburn but a midweek thumping of Portsmouth will have boosted their confidence for the visit of Aston Villa this weekend. The disapointment of exiting the champions league was evident against Blackburn last week but the Chelsea support will now be hoping that the result over Portsmouth will have gone someway to eradicating it and that the team can now focus solely on the Aston Villa game.

Aston Villa have themselves had a few setbacks recently in their push for a top four finish so they will be desperate for a win against Chelsea to get their champions league hopes back on track. March has been a notoriously difficult month for Aston Villa in recent years and having drawn seven of their last ten premier league matches it has been no different this year.

Both sides have their fair share of injury worries going into this clash with Chelsea short in the defensive department while Aston Villa are lacking in options up front.

Chelsea suffered a blow in midweek losing centre half Ricardo Carvalho to injury so John Terry and Alex are the only two recognised centre backs available for Chelsea. Ashley Cole, Branislav Ivanovic, Jose Bosingwa and Henrique Hilario are all expected to miss out on facing Aston Villa although there is slight hope for Michael Ballack to make an appearance after appearing to have shaken off an achilles injury.
