Yuvraj Singh and Pragyan Ojha have been included in the 15-man squad for the two-Test series against England. M Vijay, who debuted in the final Test against Australia last month, and S Badrinath have been retained for the series, scheduled to start in Chennai on December 11.
Kris Srikkanth, the chairman of selectors, had said that he saw Yuvraj as the front-runner to take Sourav Ganguly’s slot in the Test team after the Australia series. Yuvraj hit two consecutive match-winning hundreds (138* and 118) against England in the first two ODIs of the seven-match series, and also picked up four wickets in Indore.
However, Yuvraj has had an inconsistent run in Test cricket, having played just 23 matches for 1050 runs since his debut five years ago. However, he has been a mainstay for India in one-day cricket having piled up 6466 runs in 222 matches. It has now been confirmed that Yuvraj is Ganguly’s Test replacement.

It was like a walk down memory lane for the Nawab of Najafgarh as he stood up to speak. Much like his batting, there was nothing rehearsed about it. “When I was growing up, I dreamt of seeing Kapil Dev in person. He was my hero. But at the school I was in, I never got a chance,” Sehwag said.
And that was precisely why he came down here. “Whenever I get a call from a school, I try to go if I am not playing. I have been to many schools around the country. This is my first in Chennai,” Sehwag said.
An Upcoing News Yuvaraj Replaces Ganguly In First Test
Chennai: Yuvraj Singh will play his first Test in eight months after the dashing middle order batsman was included in India’s playing XI for the first cricket Test against England.
Yuvraj replaces Sourav Ganguly in the team who has retired from international cricket after the recent Test series against Australia. That is the only change from the
team that had played the last Test against Australia in Nagpur.
Yuvraj, who had played his last Test against South Africa at Kanpur in April, has been in sizzling form with two centuries in the recent ODI series against England before it
was called off following the terror attacks in Mumbai.
Tamil Nadu batsmen S Badrinath and Murali Vijay, paceman Munaf Patel and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha, who are part of the 15-member squad, have been left out for the first Test beginning at the M A Chidambaram stadium on Thursday.
Yuvraj’s inclusion means that the home team will go into the game with seven batsmen and four specialist bowlers.
While the in-form Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma will spearhead the pace attack,
Harbhajan Singh and leg spinner Amit Mishra, who has come into the team after the retirement of former captain and ace spinner Anil Kumble, will shoulder the spin bowling responsibility.
