The Big Breaking News! Indian boxer Vijender Kumar won his quarterfinal bout against Carlos Gongora of Ecuador and assured himself of an Olympic medal, which will be India’s third individual medal at Beijing Olympics. Vijender won on points 9-4. Vijender moved to the semifinals of 75kg Middleweight Boxing event at Beijing Olympics, but he is now assured of at least a bronze medal, as all four semi-finalists get medals in Olympic Boxing.

After the loss of Akhil Kumar and Jitender Kumar in Boxing quarterfinals, Vijender’s win brought cheer to millions of Indians. Earlier in the day, Sushil Kumar had won a bronze medal in 66kg freestyle wrestling. This is the first time India will return with at least three Olympic medals.

Micheal Pheilps wins 8 gold in olympics

Michael Phelps has finally won the 8th gold medal in Beijing Olympics 2008 and broke his tie with Mark Spitz. Phelps won his eighth gold medal as member of the U.S. 400-meter medley relay team.

His team which included Aron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen, Phelps himself and Jason Lezak won in a world-record of 3 minutes, 29.34 seconds, lowering the old mark of 3:30.68 set four years ago in Athens. Australia and Japan got silver and bronze respectively.

Phelps has won 8 out of his 8 possible gold medals in Beijing 2008 Olympic games and has arguably become the greatest Olympian of all times.

Shewag ruled out of odi series

2nd ODI of 5 match series between India and Sri Lankan will be played on Wednesday,20th August, 2008 at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, a day game will start at 9.00 AM IST. Sri Lankan won the opening ODI at the same ground on Monday easily by 8 wickets.

India’s in form batsman Virender Sehwag as been ruled out of the remaining four one-day internationals adding further problems for India, as they are badly need a big win to gain their confidence further in the series and ahead of Champions Trophy starting next month. Sehwag had twisted his left ankle during practice on Sunday and played no part in the first ODI, he scored 344 runs in the Test series.

Sri Lankan probably select the same winning team which won the 1st ODI on the same ground. Mendis and Muralitharan are in good from troubling almost all Indian bats mans from the beginning of the series.
