News has broken that the ace batsman broke his finger and will be taking rest till he recovers. Insiders say the injury is serious and will take time to heal. That is why he won’t be able to play for his country South Africa in the T-20 World Cup which is to begin after some months this year.
This is a big blow for the Royals who are down with two defeats in two matches. Despite some spectacular batting from swashbuckling Yusuf Pathan the team lost to their rival in the opening match. Pathan who scored the fasted century of the tournament was run out at a crucial moment. And in the second match he was out without scoring a run. In his absence the team used to bank on Smith, who is a great hitter of the ball. It would be interesting to see how Shane Warne fills his space.
Smith, who is captain of the South Africa team, hurt his finger while fielding during a match. He fractured his finger in the match against the Delhi Daredevils. They were unable to win the match.
“I have a double fracture in my right middle finger, so will be missing the IPL,” Smith said on his Twitter page. “I hurt it taking the catch off [Virender] Sehwag last night when I landed my finger on the ground hooked.”
